Connect an assistant app
Checked with Hermes Agent on Windows in October 2026. Claude Desktop and Gemini CLI follow those apps' own setup.
An assistant app you already use, such as Claude Desktop, Gemini CLI or Hermes Agent, can work with your books through a small helper that comes with Resibook. It uses that app's own plan, so no API key is needed in Resibook.
Whatever app you connect can only view, propose and ask.
It can
- view what you allow
- propose changes, which you approve in Review
- ask for a file, and you're asked each time
It can't
- save anything by itself
- change or delete anything
- connect while your book is locked
Resibook must be open, with your book unlocked, whenever the app works with it.
Get the pairing code and the connection details
- In Resibook, choose Settings in the sidebar.
- In the AI & Automation card, find AI and choose Open →.
- Under Agentic, choose Connect beside your app. For Gemini CLI choose Gemini, for Hermes Agent choose Hermes.
You see Connect and the app's name, with a Pairing code such as RB-4821-KT.
- Under What it may read, pick one: A summary, This month, This month and last or Whole book. Pick this before you copy anything, since changing it makes a new code.
- Choose Copy connection details. The button says Copied.
Leave the sheet open. The code works for 10 minutes, and the app asks for it once.
The details you copied look like this, with your own paths:
{
"mcpServers": {
"resibook": {
"command": "C:\\Users\\Kit\\AppData\\Local\\Microsoft\\WindowsApps\\resibook-mcp.exe",
"args": [
"--door",
"C:\\Users\\Kit\\Resibook\\agent-door.json",
"--connection",
"3f9c2a7d1e4b8c60"
]
}
}
}
Claude Desktop
- In Claude Desktop, open Settings, then Developer, then Edit Config. A folder opens with the file
claude_desktop_config.json. - Open that file in Notepad.
- If the file is empty or only has
{}, replace everything with the details you copied. If it already has"mcpServers", add the"resibook"part inside it, next to what's there. - Save the file.
- Quit Claude Desktop from its icon in the system tray (closing the window isn't enough), then open it again.
- In a new chat, type:
Pair with Resibook using the code RB-4821-KT(your code).
Claude answers that it's paired, with what it may read, for example "Paired with Resibook. It allows reading this month."
- In Resibook, choose Done.
Gemini CLI
- Open the file
settings.jsonin the.geminifolder of your user folder, for exampleC:\Users\Kit\.gemini\settings.json. If it isn't there, create it. - If the file is empty, paste the details you copied. If it already has settings, add the
"mcpServers"part beside them (or the"resibook"part inside an"mcpServers"it already has). - Save the file, then start Gemini CLI again.
- Type:
Pair with Resibook using the code RB-4821-KT(your code). - In Resibook, choose Done.
Hermes Agent
Hermes takes the command and its arguments on one line, not the copied block. Read them out of the details you copied.
-
Open a terminal and type, with your own paths and connection from the details:
hermes mcp add resibook --command "C:\Users\Kit\AppData\Local\Microsoft\WindowsApps\resibook-mcp.exe" --args --door "C:\Users\Kit\Resibook\agent-door.json" --connection 3f9c2a7d1e4b8c60 -
In Hermes, type
/reload-mcp. -
Type:
Pair with Resibook using the code RB-4821-KT(your code). -
In Resibook, choose Done.
What the app can read
What you picked under What it may read decides it.
- A summary is money in, money out and the net for this month, no transactions.
- This month adds this month's transactions: date, description, amount and account.
- This month and last adds last month's.
- Whole book lets it read the transactions of any month.
To change it, open the app's sheet again and pick another. A paired app reads by the new choice from then on, without pairing again. (Opening the sheet also makes a new pairing code. The old code stops working, but an app already paired doesn't need one.)
When the app proposes or asks
A change the app proposes waits in Transactions › Review › From your assistant. Nothing is saved until you approve it there.
When the app asks for a file, Resibook shows a question naming the app. Choose Allow once or Deny. Deny sends nothing.
Everything the app reads, proposes or asks for is a line in the AI activity log. See AI, if you want it.
Before you update Resibook
Quit your assistant app before you update Resibook. While the app is connected, Resibook's helper is running, and the website installer can't replace it.
Removing an assistant app
To stop an assistant app reading your books, open Settings › AI and choose the app under Agentic. Its sheet has Remove beside Done. Remove takes effect at once and doesn't ask first.
After that, Resibook refuses everything the app asks, even with a pairing code that hasn't run out. The app hears "This connection was removed in Resibook. Ask the person to pair again." Each refusal while your book is open is a line in the AI activity log.
Removing an app takes nothing out of your books. What it proposed before stays in Review, where you approve or reject it as usual. The activity log keeps every line, since nothing is ever taken out of it.
To use the app again, pair it again. That's a new connection with a new code, and the old one stays removed.
