AI, if you want it

Resibook works fully without AI. Your rules, reports and the rest keep running, and AI is off until you turn it on. If you connect one, it can suggest accounts for rows your rules didn't match and answer questions in AI Chat. It can only look, propose and ask. Nothing is saved until you approve it in Resibook.

You choose which AI. There are two kinds.

  • Local AI runs on this computer, so nothing leaves it. You need a program such as LM Studio or Ollama installed and running, with a model loaded.
  • Cloud AI runs on the provider's servers with your own API key: Claude, GPT, Gemini, OpenRouter or another provider. What a task needs leaves this computer. The provider bills your API account, separate from a chat subscription.

To use a chat app you already pay for instead, see Connect an assistant app.

Open the AI page

  1. Choose Settings in the sidebar.
  2. In the AI & Automation card, find AI and choose Open →.

You're on AI & Automation. At the top, Suggestions and AI Chat use says AI off and Nothing is sent.

Connect a local AI

First start your program's local server and load a model in it. See the program's own help for how.

  1. Under Local AI, choose Connect beside LM Studio or Ollama.
  2. Check Address. The usual one is filled in: http://localhost:1234/v1 for LM Studio, http://localhost:11434/v1 for Ollama. Change it only if yours is different.
  3. Choose Test. Resibook asks the program for its models and nothing else.
  4. Pick your model under Model, or type its name.
  5. Choose Save.

A local address must be on this computer. Resibook refuses any other address for a local AI.

Connect a cloud AI

  1. Under Cloud AI, choose Connect beside the provider.
  2. Paste your key under API key (for example Anthropic API key). It's kept in Windows' secure storage, never in your book or its backups.
  3. Choose Test. The provider checks the key and sends back its list of models.
  4. Pick a model under Model.
  5. Choose Save.

Turn it on

Saving a connection doesn't turn AI on.

  1. Under Suggestions and AI Chat use, pick the connection you saved. (Or choose Use on its row.)

Its row now says Active. One AI does the suggestions and AI Chat. To turn AI off again, pick AI off.

To remove a connection and forget its key, choose Edit on its row, then Remove.

What each task sends

Only what that task needs, and never your whole book.

  • Sorting rows in Review sends each unmatched row's description and amount, and the names of your accounts.
  • A question in AI Chat sends your words and the names of your accounts. No figure is sent. The AI picks which question you asked, and Resibook works out the answer from your books.
  • Matching accounts in Move your books sends the old program's account names and types, and your account names. No amount.
  • Asking about a difference in Reconcile sends the entries not yet ticked (date, description, amount), the difference, the closing balance and the statement date.

ID numbers your book holds (tax IDs and the like) are taken out of everything before it's sent.

The AI activity log

Everything sent to an AI, and everything asked for, is written to the log in this book.

  1. On AI & Automation, choose AI activity log → at the bottom.

Each line shows when, which AI, the task, what was sent or asked for, and the size. Export log saves it as a file. The log itself is never sent anywhere.

Rules first, AI only suggests

Your rules always sort a row first. The AI is asked only about rows no rule matched.

  1. Go to Transactions › Review.
  2. The bar above the rows says how many rows the rules didn't match. Choose Ask and the AI's name (for example Ask Claude).

Rows the AI is sure about get its account as a suggestion, with its reason under Why. For the rest it says what it thought, and you pick. Nothing posts until you approve it, and each approval teaches Resibook a rule, so next time no AI is needed for that description. The banner after a sort has Undo, which takes the whole sort back.
