Rules

A rule tells Resibook which account a statement row belongs to, from the words in its description. Rules sort your rows the moment a statement comes in, before any AI is asked, and they don't need the internet.

A rule only suggests. Its rows still wait in Review for you to approve them, marked Rule matched, and a rule never changes anything already in your books.

Where rules come from

  • Starter rules come with Resibook. They're general, such as bank service charges.
  • Learned from an approval rules are made for you. When you approve a row, Resibook remembers its exact description and the account you chose, for money going the same way. The next statement with the same description sorts itself.
  • Yours are the rules you add yourself.

See your rules

  1. Choose Settings in the sidebar.
  2. In the This book card, find Categorizing rules and choose Manage →.

You see the list of rules, with the words each looks for, the account it sorts into, where it came from and how many rows it has matched.

Add a rule

Use a rule when one word covers many different descriptions, such as every payout from the same company.

  1. On the Categorizing rules page, go to + Add a rule.
  2. Under Words to look for, type the words as they appear on your statement, for example PAYOUT.
  3. Under Kind, choose Keyword to match those words anywhere in the description, or Exact to match the whole description and nothing else.
  4. Under For, choose Money in, Money out or Both.
  5. Under Sorts into, pick the account.
  6. Choose Add rule.

The rule is in the list. It sorts rows from the next statement you bring in.

To sort the rows already waiting in Review, choose Apply to what's waiting in Review when the page offers it. It only touches rows you haven't picked an account for yourself.

Change a rule

  1. On the rule's row, choose Edit.
  2. Change what you need.
  3. Choose Save.

Stop a rule

  1. On the rule's row, choose Switch off.
  2. Confirm with Switch off.

The rule stops sorting new rows. Rules are never deleted. To use it again, choose Switch on on its row.

Adding, changing or switching off a rule is a change in Transactions › Changes, where Undo takes it back.
