Accounts

Accounts are the names your money is sorted under: your bank account, your income, each kind of expense. Setup gives you a starting set for the kind of business you chose. You can add your own at any time.

Every row in Review needs one of these accounts, and the Pick an account… list there only shows accounts that already exist. So when a row needs an account you don't have, add it here first, then go back to Review.

Example: an account for salaries

None of the starting sets has an account for salaries. If your statement has payroll transfers, add one.

  1. Choose Accounts in the sidebar.
  2. Choose + Add Account.
  3. Under Code, type 6500. Expense accounts use codes that start with 6, and this one isn't taken.
  4. Under Name, type Salaries & Wages.
  5. Under Type, pick expense.
  6. Leave Subtype empty.
  7. Choose Create.

The account appears under the expenses on the Accounts page. Go back to Transactions › Review. 6500 · Salaries & Wages is now in Pick an account… for each salary row. If you use Payroll later, it uses this same account.

Which type to pick

The type decides how the account adds up, and it can't be changed later.

  • income for money your business earns, such as sales, fees or subscriptions.
  • expense for money it spends, such as rent, salaries or software.
  • asset for what it owns, such as a bank account or equipment.
  • liability for what it owes, such as a loan.
  • equity for what the owner put in or took out.

The code can't be changed later either, because reports and rules use it. The name can.

Rename an account

  1. On the Accounts page, choose Edit on the account's row.
  2. Change Name.
  3. Choose Save.

Past entries show the new name. Nothing else about them changes.

Inactive accounts

Resibook never deletes an account, because your past entries still point at it. Instead, you take it out of circulation.

  1. On the account's row, choose Active.

It now says Inactive. It no longer appears in Pick an account… in Review, and its past entries stay as they were.

To bring it back, choose Inactive on its row. If inactive accounts are hidden, tick Show inactive accounts at the bottom of the page first.
